The Botanical Garden of Istanbul University Alfred Heilbronn, one of the oldest such gardens in Turkey, was founded in 1935 by German Professor Alfred Hilbron, who was invited by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, into the country.
The botanical garden is home to more than 5,000 different plant species.
In fact, in 2015, the Botanical Garden was assigned to the country's top religious body, the Directorate for Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which in turn will hand over the property to the Mufti's office in Istanbul.
The office of Sheikh-ul-Islam, the oldest Islamic figure, was located on this property during the Ottoman Empire. For this reason, according to the newspaper, the garden was assigned to the Directorate of Religious Affairs.
"This is a national treasure that should be spared. The Mufti's office could be moved everywhere, but if we leave this country, all our work will die, "said Professor Muammer Ünal of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Science, Istanbul University.
Ünal warned that if the garden was moved 400 species of trees and 5,000 plant species would die.
"Here live very rare plant species. The 14,878 square meter garden is also used by students. Classes will be affected, "he added.

With no community funding supporting the purchase of plant material, construction materials, ongoing maintenance, and our numerous gardening schemes such as an adventure playground next to our willow labyrinth and a small amphitheater to collect, a pot, and a storage room, we would not exist for our growing tool collection.
We know we are going through some difficult financial times, and we do not ask you to throw your nest egg for the garden. However, we ask that you consider donating any amount of money, big or small, to make you feel comfortable, as part of the driving force behind the Santa Ynez Botanic Garden, which provides all of us ,
